Oscars 2021 - Best Looks & Hairstyles
Amidst the turmoil of the pandemic, one thing that never fails to lift people’s spirits up is the yearly Oscars, attended by a number of A-list celebrities serving their best looks and complimenting them are captivating hairstyles enough to turn heads. Like every year (and this time too) celebrities left no stones unturned when it came to serving us the glitz, the glam and the fashion to marvel at and enjoy.
With media coverage from all around the world wanting their own piece of the evening, a whole range of looks were caught on camera - from simple and minimalist to the more dramatic, below we go over some of our favourite hairstyles rocked by the very best on the red carpet this year at the 2021 Oscars.
Zendaya’s Wavy Freefalling Hair
This year, Zendaya went for a gorgeous neon yellow dress, long and flowing all the way down the ground to add some movement and interest to the look. Her dress was complimented by simple eye makeup, full bushy brows and a bronzy radiant glow. To this look, she opted for voluminous, wavy hair freefalling down behind her dress to an effortless touch, accessorizing with a statement choker neckpiece and rings to complete the final look. As they say, less is more, and Zendaya no doubt achieved that with her au-naturel hair contrasting against the boldness of her dress.
Margot Robbie’s Low Pony
Margot Robbie also seemed a fan of effortless chic this year, gracing the carpet with her natural beauty as she appeared in sight in a shimmering floral black gown. She rocked freshly cut bangs that perfectly framed her face, keeping the rest of her luscious locks away from her face in a simple, low ponytail to detract from the dress. She completed the look with a classic black clutch in hand and statement pearl earrings.
Carey Mulligan’s Fierce Bun
Mulligan was spotted on the carpet hand in hand with her husband in an extravagant gold sequin, two-piece Valentino Haute Couture gown – that of which was reported to have taken 350 hours to make. With her hair mid-parted and elegantly arranged in a sleek, tight bun, she was the “Cinderella” of the night, posing confidently in front of cameras in her beautiful glimmering gown, elegant hairdo, Stuart Weitzman heels and Cartier statement earrings to complete the look.
Amanda Seyfried’s Hollywood Bun
As a first time Oscar nominee, Amanda Seyfried set the bar high for first looks worn on the carpet, appearing that night in a strikingly bold red dress, smokey mysterious eyes and her gorgeous, radiant beauty. The 35-year-old actress unapologetically wore a custom strapless tulle ball scarlet Giorgio Armani Prive gown, Forevermark diamonds, and eye catching crimson red lips. Her hair was the epitome of fine taste and class, polished and tame in a low, loose bun held together by glamorous Hollywood style waves and put together by stylist, Renato Campora.
Halle Berry’s Chic Bob
The Oscars is the perfect opportunity to wear your most extravagant look, and Halle Berry surely made use of this opportunity. Berry made her appearance that evening with a bold, asymmetrical A-line bob cut that stunned her fans – though rumors of the snip were previously hinted at on her Instagram prior to the big event. She looked dressed for the occasion in her lilac Dolce and Gabbana sweetheart cut gown, giving a few twists and turns in her dress to capture the layers on camera.
Angela Bassett’s Pin Straight Locks
The cinema legend brought the much-needed drama element to the Oscars and was spotted at the Oscars in a dramatic red gown with bold, puffer sleeves by Alberta Ferretti, accessorizing the gown with long, dangling ruby earrings, and a youthful lip shaped clutch to pair in hand. Her hair was kept pin straight and slicked back with a classic middle parting to add to the polished, timeless feel of her look.
H.E.R’s Soft, Bouncy Curls
If we were to award an Oscar nominee for the most memorable look, it would be her (no quite literally, H.E.R). H.E.R went for a stylish, “boss babe” vibe in a bejeweled jumpsuit and headscarf to match. Pairing her soft burgundy shades with daring wing eyeliner and bold fuchsia lips for a pop of color, she played it safe with her hair in contrast, rocking soft bouncy locks to finish the trendy and stylish look off.
Andra Day’s Tight Curls
Gold seems to be the common recurring theme at the Oscars this year, and Andra Day certainly added to its hype in a stunning, daring dress with a tight silhouette hugging her in all the right places. Day kept it light with her makeup, focusing on achieving a clear, glowy complexion and a healthy, radiant glow. With her tight curls secured high up in a bun to achieve added volume and texture in her hair, she looked effortlessly put together as she waltzed down the carpet smiling ear to ear.
Maria Bakalova’s Sunkissed-Colored Hair
First-time Academy Award Nominated entertainer Maria Bakalova was spotted that night in a deep plunge neck Louis Vuitton white gown, with carefully embellished crystals. She contrasted her fairytale look with a vampy red lip from Sisley-Paris and accessorized with Moussaieff diamond earrings, a statement tennis necklace and an 8-carat ring. Bakalova's sun-kissed champagne toned hair was made possible by Redken Shades EQ Gloss by Redken Colorist, Tracey Cunningham, and thrown together perfectly in a low, messy bun, and styled with effortless, tousled waves.
Ariana Debose’s Polished Pony
Debose stepped out in her striking Versace gown, beautifully bright in color and hard to miss in a crowd. With her super slick, smooth pony held together with a combination of crown clips and T3 styling tools by Peter Lux, the intricate details of her dress were able to be captured on camera, drawing close attention to the one-shoulder neckline, fine embellishments and intricate cutout detailing of her gown. She finished the look with bright glitter eyeshadow and a soft shine to the lips styled by makeup artist, Carola Gonzalez.
