Getting The Most From Your Cliphair Human Hair Extensions
So now you’ve received your gorgeous new Cliphair hair extensions there are lots of ways to keep them in their original silky smooth condition for many months to come.
It is essential to use the correct products for your hair extensions. When you wash your hair extensions, use a shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for dry hair, to give them as much moisture as possible. Try to plan in advance so you have time to let your hair extensions dry naturally, blow-drying can be damaging and cause premature drying of your extensions. If you do have to use a hairdryer – don’t forget your heat protection – VO5 do a great one which smells divine, or stick to our trusty favourite, the GHD thermal protection spray. The same applies when you use straighteners, curling tongs and heated rollers etc – don’t forget the heat protection.
Washing Your hair Extensions
Brush your hair extensions with a soft bristle brush before you wash them to ensure they don’t get tangled. Start at the ends of your hair and gently work your way up. Remember to just apply the shampoo and conditioner to the lengths of the hair, not the clip area. Fill a sink with Use lukewarm water (never hot) and gently lower your hair extensions into the sink, holding securely by the clips. Apply a regular sized amount of shampoo and gently massage into the lengths of your hair extensions. Rinse thoroughly before repeating with a mousturising conditioner.
After washing, pat dry and squeeze gently (do not rub, massage or twist). You may like to use a serum or leave in conditioner now to keep your extensions really soft.
You should only need to wash them after you have worn them around 4-6 times. Store your clip in hair extensions with the clips closed to avoid any tangling. You can find visual hair washing advice on our YouTube channel.
Styling Your Hair Extensions
If you style your hair a lot, either blow drying or with straighteners, use a heat protector spray to minimise any damage caused.
When brushing your hair extensions, always be gentle and hold the hair at the clips to take pressure off the clips themselves.
To maximise the life of your extensions you can trim them slightly over time, this can keep them looking really fresh and give them a salon finish. Take your hair extensions out before sleeping to prevent them from becoming matted and don’t wear them swimming – chlorine is damaging for the hair.
Why are my hair extensions becoming matted?
Hair extensions can become matted when they aren’t brushed properly.
When brushing the hair extensions, start at the bottom and work your way up to the roots to avoid matting. Brush your hair prior to washing to avoid any tangling. It’s a good idea to use a soft bristle brush – never use a fine toothed comb unless back combing.
My hair extensions feel dry, what can I do?
Give your hair extensions a new lease of life by washing them with a deep moisturising shampoo and conditioner, followed by a serum. Leave them to dry naturally and then style as usual!
Can you colour hair extensions?
Although 100% human hair extensions can be coloured, we do not recommend that you do this as the quality of the hair cannot be guaranteed after it has been coloured. Just like your own real hair, colouring the extensions can cause damage and weakness, therefore it will shorten the life span of the extensions. If you choose to colour your extensions, we suggest testing it on a small area of the hair first to ensure the colour takes to the hair and well and does not cause damage.
If you look after your hair extensions and treat them gently you will enjoy months and months of glamorous hair! Enjoy <3
