Here at Cliphair, our Brunette shades sell more than any other color in our collection. Brown hair is not only the most common hair color in the world but also the easiest to achieve when dying, we believe this is the reason our Brunette Hair Extensions have stayed firmly at the top for all these years. In todays blog we are diving deeper into each of our 8 different shades of Brunette hair extensions to help you find the right one for your hair along with tips on how to maintain and achieve brunette hair.

    Color Terminology Buster

Quite often in the hair and beauty industry technical language is used to describe products and shades. This is all well and good if you are trained to understand these words but for the everyday extension wearer it can be really confusing! We’ve simplified some common color terminology below to help you understand our descriptions, this could also help you when explaining to your stylist how you want your color to look.

    • Brunette - Brown hair
    • Ashy/Ash - Grey/Blue undertones. No warmth or red
    • Warm - Gold/Red undertones
    • Neutral - Plain and flat, neither ashy or warm
    • Golden - Yellow/Orange undertones
    • Ginger - Orange undertones
    • Brassy - When the hair is too yellow or orange
    • Mousey - Ashy and neutral tones
    • Undertones - Subtle tones underneath the hair surface that influence the overall color.

    Darkest Brown (#2)

    Darkest Brown (#2)

This sultry shade is super dark and gives off a dazzling shine. It blends flawlessly with both dyed hair and natural hair. Darkest Brown is neither warm nor ashy, it’s very neutral in tone so it blends with many different hair types.

Darkest Brown is the top seller in our Brunette collection which is why we have it available in all our different extension types.

    Dark Brown (#3)

    Dark Brown (#3)

Dark Brown is neutral with very slight golden undertones but is not considered warm. Inspired by Mocha Coffee this shade blends beautifully with natural dark hair and can be used with black shades to create natural looking lowlights.

Another very strong contender in our collection this shade is available in most items.

    Medium Brown (#4)

    Medium Brown (#4)

The true Brunette Brown. Rich and velvety with deep chocolatey undertones, this shade is good enough to eat! The richness of this color gives off the glossiest shine that looks stunning in natural sunlight. This shade is perfect for both natural and dyed hair colors and works with all hair types.

This shade is the root color to a lot of our balayage pieces as it beautifully compliments blonde highlights to create Sunkissed looks.

    Toffee Brown (#5)

    Medium Brown (#4)

Our Autumnal Toffee Brown shade oozes caramel undertones. A lighter brown color that is perfect for anyone with very warm, reddish-brown hair. It can even be added to dark hair to create a stunning, caramel balayage effect.

    Light Brown (#6)

    Light Brown (#6)

Like our Toffee Brown however this Light Brown is slightly softer and less red. This shade is also described as a chestnut brown due to the golden undertones running through it. Another one of our most popular shades which can be found in all our extension types. This color works beautifully with naturally lighter brown hair.

    Mousey Brown (#6B)

    Mousey Brown (#6B)

Our Mousey Brown shade is a great match to most natural brown roots thanks to its ashy undertone. Its neutral base works very well with uncolored hair. This shade is slightly darker than Light Brown and not as red.

    Medium Ash Brown (#8)

    Medium Ash Brown (#8)

A soft, cool brown shade with neutral undertones. The mix of ashy hues in this color give a very natural finish which blends perfectly with uncolored hair. Due to its high popularity this color can be found in most of our hair extension categories.

    Ash Brown (#9)

    Ash Brown (#9)

Our Lightest brown shade with cool, ashy tones. The rising trend of ashy hair color has brought this shade out of the shadows and its more popular than ever in recent months. This shade is used in a lot of darker mixed shades to counteract any warmth from the blonder highlights.

This shade can be found in almost all our hair extension types.

    How to Enhance Brunette Hair?

One of the top advantages of having brunette hair is the dazzling shine and silky feel. Blonde hair is notoriously difficult to make look shiny so embrace and enhance that shine on your brown locks by using Shine mists and Moisture Sprays.

How to go from Brunette to Blonde Without Damaging Hair?

Use hair extensions! Adding blonde hair extensions to brown hair is a fantastic way of lightening your hair without having to add a drop of bleach or dye. Choose complimentary tones, for example: golden blondes with warm browns, cool blondes with neutral/ashy browns.

    Is Black Hair Brunette?

There really is no definite answer to this. To avoid confusion between colors, here at Cliphair we like to separate our Brunette shades from our Black shades. However, a lot of people would still consider Black as a Brunette shade.

How to get rid of Brassy Tones in Brunette Hair?

Toning shampoos are not only just for blonde hair. If your brown hair is feeling a little brassy and golden simply use a purple toning shampoo to neutralise these tones.

How to Dye Blonde Hair Brown Without it Turning Green?

If the hair is very blonde and a dark dye is put on top it will not always go brown the first time. Unfortunately sometimes what’s left is a green tinge to the hair, this can be avoided by using a slightly redder brown dye to begin with as the red pigment will neutralise the green. FUN FACT: Ketchup is used as a home remedy to take green tones out of hair!
