Description

Cliphair’s Silver Lining – Purple Toning Shampoo is specially designed to banish yellow and brassy tones to rebalance blonde hair. The paraben free formula also removes impurities and product build up leaving the hair feeling clean and hydrated. Perfect for blonde, lightened or grey hair that’s lost its cool.

The toning intensity can be controlled to suit your specific needs by adjusting the soaking times on the hair and adapting the washing method. For use on hair extensions, we strongly recommend following our instructions and using the intensity chart which you can find here.

Our toning shampoo is designed for occasional use only to restore ashy, cool tones in blonde hair and remove yellow or brassiness. For everyday use on your own hair or hair extensions we advise using a more hydrating shampoo such as the deep moisture hair extensions shampoo from our Quench The Thirst collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does purple shampoo do?

Purple shampoo is a DIY toning product used on blonde, highlighted or grey hair that neutralises yellow, brassy tones leaving the hair ashier, and cooler toned for a cleaner blonde. It’s a diluted version of the professional toners used in salons by hairstylists that is safe to use at home in between colour services.

Can you use purple toning shampoo on hair extensions?

Using any type of toner or dye (even toning shampoo) will affect the quality and life span of human hair extensions as they have already been colour treated and removed from their natural root. Most purple shampoos also contain sulphates which can be harmful to hair extensions, we recommend only using toning products very occasionally and finishing with a strong conditioning mask to restore moisture.

Can you use purple toning shampoo everyday?

Its not advised to use purple shampoo as your everyday shampoo, it should only be used to eliminate unwanted brassy, yellow tones in the hair on an occasional basis. Overuse of purple toning shampoos can cause the hair to appear dull and darker over time and even become grey/purple. It can also dry the hair out if used continuously so stick to no more than once every two weeks and use a hydrating shampoo in between like the Cliphair Deep Moisture Shampoo.

How to get purple shampoo out of hair?

If you find the purple shampoo has toned more than you wanted it too or grabbed onto certain areas and left a purple tinge, don’t panic! This is quite a common occurrence with this product and can be reversed, its especially common when using on hair extensions as they are more porous than your own hair due to the processing they go through during manufacturing. Simply wash the hair with a clarifying shampoo, this will strip some of the colour away from the hair, you may need to do this twice. As clarifying shampoo is a strong cleanser the hair will feel a little dry after use so its super important to rehydrate it with a deep conditioning mask. To avoid issues with home toning, follow our detailed instructions for the best results.

Can you use purple shampoo on brown hair?

You can however it won’t have as much effect as on blonde or lightened hair. To banish warm or orange tones in brunette shades, blue shampoos are more effective. Purple shampoo can be used on highlighted brown hair though to rebalance the lightened pieces if they begin to turn brassy over time.

What is silver shampoo?

Silver shampoo is not unlike purple shampoo as it works to neutralise yellow tones in the hair, however its more suitable for naturally grey, white or silver hair. Purple shampoo is best used on blonde or lightened hair.

The Purple shampoo gave enough tone without staining the extensions, which is a great thing, as with other brands which I use they often leave purple stains on the extensions.

I felt this could be a little stronger compared to others on the market however can appreciate these working well and not grabbing too much onto extensions. Again, a great lather to it which can sometimes be lacking in other brands.

For a purple toning shampoo this is a very good alternative to others out there at a much higher price point. I like this on natural hair when the clients toner starts to fade from the salon as an in-between toner/ colouring appointment.

On extensions I wouldn't normally suggest using toning shampoo as they do tend to have a higher amount of product designed to strip to enable to colour molecules to grab the hair (hence the purple/blue tone ). This does seem to be a mild cleanser in that when I have tested this (diluted in water on extensions) this hasn't made the extensions overly dry.

The smell isn't overpowering its very mild yet clean which I like. And the general shelf life of the anti brass it gives tends to last between 3 and 5 normal washes which is lovely as you do not want to be using this very often on extensions.

I've Only Used It A Few Times & Again Wow! Neutralising The Yellow IN SECONDS! And leaves the most ashiest, gorgeous blonde you've ever seen! For any blonde hair or extension wearers this is my top recommendation for them!
