If you, like me, love a cinema awards night, you probably wouldn’t trade a nice night in front of the BAFTAs for anything in the world. In this part of the world, after all, this is like the equivalent of the Oscars night.

But life gets in the way, I know, I understand that! And although I would probably be a little too prolix on a full on review, I thought to myself: why not write a nice round-up of the beautiful hairstyles we’ve seen on the red carpet Sunday night? Trust me: these 5 celebrities are proof that special visual effects can be found in real life too!

    2022 BAFTA Hairstyles: Lady Gaga

Let me start with this weekend’s absolute queen, aka the House Of Gucci’s star herself, singer and actress Lady Gaga! You may know her for her music and killer performances, or for her quirky art-pop music videos during the 2010s.

Gaga has evolved a lot, both personally and artistically, and I couldn’t be happier to see her shine bright on the red carpet.

On Sunday, Lady Gaga stunned us with vintage, platinum blonde Hollywood waves - wrapped in an emerald green Ralph Lauren dress and sparkling in Tiffany & Co. jewellery. A true diva!

    2022 BAFTA Hairstyles: Daisy Edgar-Jones

Normal People’s star Daisy Edgar-Jones was shining inside-out in a custom-made Gucci dress that looked like it was carved out directly from a huge crystal. Fairy-tale stuff!

If you add a romantic, softly curled half-up half-down hairstyle, you know you have my heart (and a spot on this list)!

The English actress debuted in 2016 with the independent coming-of-age film Pond Life, and this is her first BAFTA nomination a Best Actress, at the age of 23. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of this rising star!

    2022 BAFTA Hairstyles: Emilia Jones

You may remember Emilia in Locke & Key, or her more recent appearance in Apple TV+’s CODA, where she portrays the only hearing member of a deaf family struggling with chasing her musical dreams without having to be apart from her parents.

In February, at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards, CODA made history with Troy Kotsur, Marlen Matlin and Daniel Durant becoming the first deaf/non-hearing performers to win.

Sunday night, at the BAFTAs, Emilia Jones was literally wrapped in gold leaf, dressed by Atelier Versace, sporting a youthful updo with curled tendrils to frame her face. Stunning!

    2022 BAFTA Hairstyles: Emma Watson

How could we talk about British cinema and television stars without mentioning queen Emma? After ditching her Hogwarts uniform, her career has gone upwards and the celebrity has used her visibility to bring attention on the ongoing feminism battle.

Sunday night, we saw the actress, public speaker, activist and meditation teacher bring back a long-lost trend - the bobby-pinned bangs! - dazzling on the red carpet in a two-toned tulle gown. A true Y2K icon.

    2022 BAFTA Hairstyles: Millie Bobby-Brown

The 80s have made a comeback, and we owe a lot of this to Netflix’s Stranger Things, where Millie Bobby-Brown portraits superpowered Eleven. After that, Millie quickly became a celebrity icon and launched her own make-up line, Florence By Mills.

After her January’s big chop (a 1920s flapper inspired short bob), at the 2022 BAFTA awards the actress rocked an updo with a middle-parted fringe, inspired by the boy-band bob that is currently breaking the Internet, whilst wearing a velvet and lace edgy dress by Louis Vuitton.

    Conclusion:

Red carpets and gala soirees are always a great opportunity to steal some looks - ahem, I mean get inspired - and the BAFTAs have been no exception!

Celebrities from all over the world showed up at the Royal Albert Hall in London wrapped in magnificent ensembles - and as you can see, this year’s awards ceremony is proof that sometimes, when it comes to elegant hairstyles, less is more.
